“£1.5M Target Nears: 14-Month-Old Scheduled for Life-Saving Heart Surgery”

Date:

A 14-month-old child has been scheduled for a life-saving heart surgery date, as his mother nears the ambitious target of £1.5 million for medical treatment in the United States.

Jasmin Roberts, the mother, has been actively seeking to raise the substantial sum for her young son, who was born with a rare and complex heart ailment. The condition, known as pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (PA-VSD MAPCAs), poses a threat to Ollie’s life expectancy, potentially limiting it to under two years without the crucial surgery.

The £1.5 million was required to cover the expenses of the life-saving procedure at Stanford, USA, renowned as the premier facility for Ollie’s specific condition. With the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK only offering palliative care, the option for surgery was exclusive to the US.

Currently, Ollie’s mother has secured over 90% of the targeted funds necessary for the entire surgical process. Surpassing the 75% milestone enabled Jasmin to secure a surgery appointment with the Stanford medical center. Once the total sum of 100% is attained, the surgery will be confirmed to proceed.

Today, it was disclosed that Ollie’s surgery is set for January 23, 2026.

Speaking to Mirror, Jasmin expressed her relief, stating, “I can see the finish line, and I’ll be relieved when the fundraising is concluded, and I can finally take a breath.” She cautiously acknowledged the significant fundraising achievement and remained cautiously optimistic about the final stretch.

Ollie’s journey garnered widespread attention on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, resulting in a remarkable 81,000 contributions from various supporters. Notable figures like actor Ryan Reynolds and author Leigh Rivers made substantial donations towards the cause. Additionally, an anonymous donor contributed £15,000 to support Jasmin’s efforts.

Expressing gratitude to the public for their incredible backing that helped reach the £1.4 million milestone, Jasmin acknowledged the daunting task she faced when initiating the campaign and marveled at the nearing accomplishment.

Ollie’s surgical procedure involves a two-step heart repair process, with the initial phase to be conducted in Stanford, followed by the NHS taking over for the subsequent stage.

Jasmin emphasized the need for the full funding before the surgery can proceed, urging for one last push of support to bring the campaign to a successful close.
