Luke Littler expressed amazement at the exceptional talent of 15-year-old darts player Mitchell Lawrie, who has been making waves at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside. Lawrie, born in 2010, made history by becoming the youngest player to secure a victory at Lakeside by defeating Tomoya Maruyama from Japan. Lawrie then went on to defeat Jason Brandon 3-0, showcasing his skills with five maximum scores and impressive checkouts.
Lawrie achieved a remarkable 97.21 average, the highest recorded at the tournament to date. Littler, reacting to Lawrie’s performance on the WDF Darts Instagram account, lauded the young player, stating, “This kid is a joke.”
Following his straight-set victory over Brandon, Lawrie expressed his joy and pride, stating, “I’m absolutely buzzing with myself, to be honest.” Despite facing a tough opponent in Brandon, Lawrie acknowledged the challenge and emphasized the importance of a strong start in the match.
Lawrie impressed spectators by finishing each leg in the first set in under 15 darts, narrowly missing out on a potential nine-dart finish but clinching a superb 134 checkout. The young player credited the supportive crowd for boosting his performance throughout the match.
While Brandon mounted a comeback in the final set, Lawrie maintained his composure, eventually securing the win. Reflecting on the match, Lawrie admitted to a brief lapse in concentration but praised his ability to refocus and close out the game successfully.
When questioned about any nerves during crucial moments in the match, Lawrie dismissed the notion, attributing any missed opportunities to external distractions. The PDC World Darts Championship is set to commence on December 11, offering fans the opportunity to watch every match live exclusively with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
