A tragic incident occurred in Vacaria, Brazil, where a father and daughter lost their lives in a devastating bee attack. The daughter, Silvana da Fatima Braganca da Luz, 54, crashed her truck into a beehive on a rural dirt track, leading to a swarm of bees attacking her. Hearing the commotion, a neighbor rushed to alert her parents as emergency services were on their way to the remote location. Silvana’s father, Raul Portela da Luz, 79, bravely attempted to rescue her from the overturned truck but suffered fatal stings in the process. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and sadly passed away the next day. Silvana also succumbed to her injuries, while her mother, aged 72, who was stung multiple times, survived after receiving medical treatment and has since been discharged.
The tragic incident unfolded in Vacaria, located in the northeastern part of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The firefighters were the first responders to arrive at the scene, although their station was nearly 40 miles away, causing a delay in their response.
A spokesperson for the fire department mentioned that both victims sustained numerous bee stings, with the crash victim still alive when the rescue team arrived, indicating that the deaths did not occur immediately after the accident.
An investigation has been initiated by the police to determine the official cause of death for Raul and his daughter, attributed to the bee stings they endured.
Expressing shock over the incident, Juliano Gibbert commented, “These tragic losses could have been prevented. Beehives should not be located near roads as bees can behave unpredictably and attack people for various reasons.”
