In a swift response, former police officers in New York City rescued a woman with a 5-month-old baby from the East River. The incident unfolded on a Sunday morning when the woman waded into the river with the infant.
The heroic rescue was narrated by retired officer Kevin O’Donnell and his colleague Paul Pinsdorf, who were attending a Halloween parade in Hermon Macneil Park. O’Donnell alerted emergency services while Pinsdorf jumped into the water to save the struggling pair.
Pinsdorf recalled the urgency of the situation as the baby was dangerously close to being submerged. Despite the woman’s resistance, he managed to bring them to safety. O’Donnell praised Pinsdorf as the true hero for taking decisive action.
With language barriers posing a challenge, O’Donnell described the chaotic scene as they reached the shore. Emergency services swiftly arrived and successfully rescued both the woman and the baby from the water.
Following the rescue, the woman was taken to North Shore University Hospital, and the baby was transported to New York Presbyterian Hospital. The authorities are yet to confirm the relationship between the woman and the child or the reason behind the incident.
