Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson seek new royal homes amid Royal Lodge departure negotiations

Date:

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are reportedly requesting two residences as they negotiate leaving the Royal Lodge. The 65-year-old prince is said to be in talks about voluntarily vacating his 30-room Royal Lodge due to controversy over the minimal rent he currently pays for the property in Windsor.

According to sources, Andrew is discussing the matter with King’s aides but is hesitant to part with his residence of over two decades. The main issues under discussion are the location of his new home and financial reimbursement for the renovations done at the lodge.

During the exit discussions with the Palace, Prince Andrew is seeking Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former residence, Frogmore Cottage, while Sarah Ferguson, his ex-wife, is eyeing Adelaide Cottage once it is vacated by William and Kate next month.

A source close to the couple mentioned to The Sun that the situation at the Palace is uncertain. Frogmore Cottage’s limited space makes it unsuitable for both, but Adelaide Cottage’s proximity allows them to see each other frequently. Both homes offer ample room for visits from their daughters, Eugenie and Beatrice, and their families.

The Mirror has reached out to Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew’s representatives for comments on the matter.

Reports suggest that Prince William is demanding Andrew leave Royal Lodge by Bonfire Night as he and Princess Kate prepare to move into nearby Forest Lodge. Royal sources indicate that William wants the disgraced duke out of the 30-room property before their arrival, stating that Catherine does not wish to live so close to Royal Lodge while Andrew still resides there.

MPs are poised to debate Prince Andrew’s behavior, his mansion, and the potential stripping of his dukedom. While the Government has not scheduled time in the House of Commons for discussions, the issue might come up on days when ministers do not control the parliamentary schedule.

According to a Liberal Democrat source, the party may consider using one of its opposition days to allow MPs to address Andrew’s conduct. Although Andrew relinquished the use of his Duke of York title recently, only a parliamentary law can officially revoke it.
