Brendan Rodgers engaged in a futile battle with Irish businessman Dermot Desmond, a scenario reminiscent of Sir Alex Ferguson’s past experience over two decades ago. History has shown that those who challenge Desmond often find themselves on the losing end, as Rodgers recently did, departing Celtic with his managerial reputation tarnished.

Desmond, a prominent figure at Celtic, is known for his decisive actions and recently launched a scathing attack on Rodgers. This echoes a similar situation in the early 2000s when Desmond, a significant Manchester United shareholder at the time, mediated a well-known dispute between Ferguson and fellow Irish businessman John Magnier over the ownership of the stallion ‘Rock Of Gibraltar’.

Despite Ferguson’s initial resistance, Desmond’s intervention led to a settlement favoring Magnier, illustrating Desmond’s influence and ability to achieve his objectives. Rodgers is now facing the consequences of crossing paths with Desmond, realizing the power and discretion Desmond wields.

In an unusual move, Desmond publicly criticized Rodgers for contributing to a negative atmosphere at the club, signaling a significant fallout between the two parties. Rodgers may contemplate legal action, mirroring Ferguson’s actions in the past, but the road ahead seems uncertain for him.

Sky has announced a substantial discount on its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming 2025/26 season, offering a savings of £336 to customers and access to over 1,400 live matches across various leagues. The package includes an increase in the number of live Premier League games shown, with at least 215 matches scheduled for broadcast next season.
