“M6 Motorway Section Closed After Severe Accident”

Date:

A major section of the M6 motorway has been closed following a severe accident, leading authorities to warn drivers that the closure could last for “several hours.”

Police have cautioned motorists travelling in the affected area to anticipate significant delays, as the southbound lane between J13 (Stafford) and J12 (Cannock) has been shut during peak rush hour due to a collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a van.

A spokesperson from National Highways stated that the West Midlands Ambulance Service and National Highways resources are on-site to manage traffic, with Staffordshire Police leading the response and conducting an investigation. The closure of the carriageway is expected to persist for several more hours.

Drivers are currently experiencing two-hour delays on the approach, with traffic congestion reported on the A449 diversion route. Traffic police are present at the scene, and the southbound lane remains closed between junctions 12 and 13.

The closure of the M6 southbound between J13 in Stafford and J12 in Cannock is due to a serious collision, with traffic police conducting collision investigations. Delays of up to 60 minutes are being reported on the approach, and congestion is building on the A449 diversion.

Traffic has come to a standstill on the M6 southbound from Junction 14, with queues also forming on the northbound side near the accident site.

National Highways has advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and to plan ahead, suggesting alternative routes if possible. Real-time traffic updates are available on the www.trafficengland.com website, regional Twitter feeds, and by contacting the 24/7 contact center at 0300 123 500.

Drivers are instructed to follow the designated diversion symbol and expect delays of up to 60 minutes with around 3 miles of tailbacks towards J14 for Stafford. Long delays are also reported on the diversion route through Penkridge and approaching Gailey roundabout via the A449.

The closure of the M6 this morning was triggered by a serious collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a van. Staffordshire Police are overseeing the incident and conducting investigations, with the closure expected to last throughout the morning.

Motorists in the Staffordshire area are advised to prepare for lengthy delays, with Junction 13 to Junction 12 on the M6 closed for investigative work.

The M6 southbound between Junction 13 and Junction 12 remains closed for investigation work, causing delays in the Stafford area. Updates can be found on National Highways’ official channels.

Staffordshire Police and the West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to the crash involving a truck and a van in the early hours, with National Highways issuing an alert shortly after midnight about the “serious collision.”

Police and collision investigators are currently on-site, with the southbound lane closed between Junction 13 and 12 on the M6 due to the collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a van.
