A couple engaged in sexual activity while driving at a speed of 90mph almost caused a major accident on a German autobahn. The pair, aged 37 and 33, were observed swerving across the A1 motorway on a Monday. A concerned witness reported the incident to the authorities after passing by their vehicle and witnessing the male driver and female passenger involved in the act. Subsequently, the couple was apprehended at a gas station near Münster, and the man was charged with endangering road traffic.
Reports from local media disclosed that at one instance, the vehicle, traveling towards Dortmund, veered sharply to the right, forcing a truck onto the emergency lane. While Germany’s Autobahn is renowned for its extensive stretches without speed limits, not all sections are unrestricted. Approximately 30% of the roads have enforced speed limits, and an additional 9% utilize traffic management systems to maintain smooth traffic flow. Certain areas impose stringent speed restrictions, particularly in regions with high traffic volume or elevated risk levels.
In a separate incident in July, a speeding driver was apprehended for racing at an astonishing 200mph on the Autobahn, surpassing the speed limit by over 124mph. The individual’s identity was not disclosed, but they were caught during a routine inspection on the A2 highway near Burg, situated west of Berlin. Law enforcement in Magdeburg imposed a €900 (£784) fine, a three-month driving suspension, and deducted two points from the driver’s license as penalties for the offense.
