Four Members of Parliament who were previously suspended by the Labour party have now been reinstated after discussions with the Chief Whip. The MPs in question, Brian Leishman, Chris Hinchliff, Neil Duncan-Jordan, and Rachael Maskell, had been suspended for breaches of party discipline earlier in July.
Following a review of their recent conduct, all four MPs have had the Labour whip restored. They were part of a group of Labour backbenchers who opposed government plans to cut disability benefits in July, a move that was later abandoned due to significant opposition.
In a statement, Rachael Maskell expressed gratitude for the restoration of the whip and affirmed her commitment to Labour values and serving her constituents in York. She emphasized the importance of addressing poverty and improving public services and the economy.
Mr. Leishman, representing Alloa and Grangemouth, highlighted the significance of having the whip restored, emphasizing his dedication to the Labour Party and its mission of promoting social and economic equality.
Mr. Duncan-Jordan, the MP for Poole, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing his long-standing involvement in the Labour and trade union movement and his commitment to advocating for Labour values in addressing poverty and inequality.
Mr. Hinchliff also welcomed his reinstatement, mentioning positive discussions with the Chief Whip and expressing his dedication to serving the communities of North East Hertfordshire and supporting Labour’s goals of prioritizing people and the environment over profit.
