“Sky Enhances Glass TVs and Stream Boxes with Free Update”

Date:

Sky has recently released a significant update for its well-liked Glass TVs and Stream boxes, and the best part is that it comes at no cost for users who own these devices. The latest upgrade, which started rolling out to households last week, brings several new functionalities, such as the capability to manage Sky’s internet-connected devices through a smartphone and set reminders for programs listed in the TV guide.

The settings menu has been revamped for easier navigation, and additional accessibility features have been included, like enhanced contrast controls for text and backgrounds within Sky applications. The company stated, “Sky’s continuously improving operating system, Sky OS, has been enhanced, offering Sky Glass and Stream customers even more intelligent ways to operate their TV.”

For those with a Sky Glass TV, Sky Glass Air device, or Sky Stream box, these new features will be automatically delivered without the need for any manual intervention. The update will be installed seamlessly.

Among the newly introduced features is the ability to set reminders for favorite shows, enabling users to avoid the hassle of searching for the remote when important events like a Premier League match or a season finale are about to start. Users can set reminders for any program in the TV guide by simply visiting the show page and selecting “Set a reminder.” A notification will pop up at the top of the screen when the show begins.

A convenient new method to control the TV has been introduced, allowing users to control their Sky Glass and Stream devices via the new digital Sky remote app on iOS and Android. The app permits quick access to favorite shows, channel switching, and playback management with a single tap. Users of the remote app can also benefit from built-in accessibility features like screen reader support.

Sky has also streamlined its settings, making them more accessible with a simple press of the three dots on the Sky remote, eliminating the need for scrolling down. The quick access menu has been relocated for faster navigation to settings like picture and sound adjustments, parental controls, and accessibility options.

Moreover, a variety of new accessibility features have been introduced, including an upgraded voice guidance experience with adjustable speed, high contrast options in Sky apps, magnification mode for up to 400% zoom, and Audio Description availability for on-demand shows on Sky Cinema and Sky Entertainment, mirroring the accessibility already offered on Sky broadcast channels.
