“Trainer Disqualified for Verbal Attack on Racing Official”

Date:

A horse racing trainer in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, has been disqualified after verbally attacking a racing official during an inspection. Garry Lunn, a successful trainer with a track record of over 500 wins, including more than 100 at the local Dubbo racecourse, faced consequences for his behavior towards steward Xavier Dalton.

During a stable audit inspection in September by RacingNSW officials, discrepancies in stable return records were identified. When Dalton returned the following month for another inspection, Lunn became belligerent and hurled insults at him, questioning his competence and using profane language. Lunn’s aggressive behavior continued even after Dalton attempted to leave the premises.

Lunn was charged with obstructing Dalton from performing his duties and engaging in improper conduct by directing disrespectful and aggressive language towards the official. Despite denying the charges, Lunn was found guilty and handed a three-month disqualification for the first offense and a nine-month disqualification for the second offense, to be served concurrently from November 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
