“Boost Your Wi-Fi This Holiday Season: Avoid Christmas Tree Interference”

Date:

As the holiday season approaches, it’s a good idea to check your Wi-Fi connection before hosting family and friends to ensure everyone stays connected. Surprisingly, your Christmas tree can actually interfere with your broadband signal, especially when adorned with shiny decorations like tinsel and baubles, causing disruptions to your internet speeds.

Additionally, twinkling fairy lights, particularly older ones set to flash or twinkle, can also pose a risk to your Wi-Fi signal. Thomas Joseph, a Connectivity Expert at Sky, advises checking the placement of your Wi-Fi hub in relation to your Christmas tree, as lights and the tree itself could obstruct the signal, leading to weaker connectivity.

Apart from the Christmas tree, other household items like baby monitors, cordless phones, microwave ovens, and even fish tanks can impact your Wi-Fi signal. To optimize your connection, ensure your router is positioned in an open area and elevated off the floor for better coverage. However, avoid placing it near windows for both speed and security concerns.

Virgin Media has emphasized the importance of positioning your hub appropriately to avoid signal interference from large electronic devices like TVs or bodies of water such as aquariums or microwaves. They recommend resetting your router before gatherings by powering it off and on to address any issues and restore optimal speeds.

Remember to reboot your router regularly to ensure it has the necessary security updates and patches. By following these tips and maintaining your Wi-Fi network, you can enjoy uninterrupted connectivity during the festive season and beyond.
