Virgin Media has emerged as the top choice for households seeking superior broadband speeds, reliability, and consistent quality, based on the latest assessment by Opensignal. The UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) clinched the leading position in all categories, including Download Speed, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Consistent Quality.
Principal Analyst Andrey Popov highlighted that amidst the UK’s transition to full-fibre networks, Virgin Media stands out with the most robust broadband experience across all metrics tracked. The ISP’s enhanced cable-to-fibre network prowess distinguishes it from competitors relying primarily on the Openreach wholesale platform. Virgin Media excels significantly in Download Speed, clocking in at 187.8Mbps, and Reliability Experience, scoring 747 points.
Vodafone secured the second spot overall, boasting commendable scores across the board. The ISP’s advantage lies in its dual-network strategy, a rarity among broadband providers, operating on both the Openreach and CityFibre networks. In contrast, most ISPs utilize a single platform, giving Vodafone a competitive edge.
Other notable ISPs include BT, placing third in Consistent Quality and Download Speed categories, and Sky, recognized for its superior Video Experience, ranking second in this aspect.
On the other end of the spectrum, Three landed at the bottom of the rankings. The ISP recorded the lowest scores in Consistent Quality, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Reliability Experience. TalkTalk also faced challenges in download speeds, with an average speed of 55.1Mbps compared to Virgin Media’s over 180Mbps.
