Google’s Chrome browser is phasing out support for older versions of Apple’s macOS on MacBook devices, raising concerns for users. While Chrome will remain functional on MacBooks and iMacs, updates and security patches will cease, leaving users potentially exposed to cyber threats and technical issues. The changes are set to take effect from July this year, impacting Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier. Users on these platforms will need to upgrade to macOS Ventura or newer to continue receiving browser support.
Unfortunately, some older Mac models, like pre-2018 MacBook Airs and iMacs predating 2017, are incompatible with macOS Ventura, potentially requiring users to purchase new devices for continued Chrome usage. Google emphasized that Chrome 150 is the final version supporting macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome 151, expected to launch on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users on macOS 12 are advised to transition to a supported macOS version to access future Chrome updates and security enhancements.
This move by Google underlines the importance of staying updated with device operating systems to ensure optimal browser performance and security.
