A woman who experienced clinical death for three minutes shared her transformative journey of loss and discovery. Callie Elwayns faced a critical medical condition known as tension pneumothorax, where air accumulates between the lung and chest wall, exerting pressure on vital organs. Her heart ceased beating during the episode.
Recalling the incident, Callie described an out-of-body encounter that provided her with profound insights and a deeper understanding of her experience. Speaking on a YouTube channel called The Other Side, the Canadian resident recounted the moments leading up to her collapse due to the pneumothorax, which prompted her to seek urgent medical assistance.
Emergency responders successfully revived Callie after three minutes of resuscitation efforts as she was being transported to the hospital. She vividly recalled encountering a sensation she could only define as “love” during the near-death event, feeling a sense of expanded consciousness and detachment from her physical self.
In her introspective reflection, Callie believed that shedding her individual identity was necessary, given her tumultuous upbringing marked by a volatile parental figure. Enduring a troubled childhood, she faced homelessness at a young age and recurrent lung collapses, attributing them to psychological trauma manifesting physically.
Despite the challenges, Callie’s health eventually stabilized, allowing her to embrace a normal life and become a mother of two. However, the near-death encounter reshaped her outlook, acting as a catalyst for healing from past traumas and rediscovering self-love within.
“I felt a sense of completeness,” she expressed. “Returning to my body, which had endured years of turmoil and physical ailments, I realized that love had always resided within me.”
