Nicky Henderson remains unfazed as he looks forward to the upcoming showdown between Constitution Hill and rising star The New Lion this Saturday. Having been undefeated in ten races last season, Constitution Hill faced setbacks when he fell as the favorite at both the Champion Hurdle and Aintree races earlier this year.
Henderson recently mentioned that Constitution Hill underwent a thorough assessment at an equine vision center before the season began. Despite the previous defeats, Constitution Hill is currently the third favorite at 5-1 odds for the next Champion Hurdle race, trailing behind Willie Mullins’ mare Lossiemouth and The New Lion.
The stage is set for an exciting face-off between Constitution Hill and The New Lion at the BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle in Newcastle this weekend. Other notable entries include Anzadam from Willie Mullins’ stable and the reigning Champion Hurdle victor, Golden Ace. Coral bookmakers have the two frontrunners, Constitution Hill and The New Lion, tied at 11-8 odds.
Henderson expressed confidence in Constitution Hill’s readiness for the challenge, stating that preparations have been smoother this year compared to the previous season. With the final training session completed successfully, jockey Nico de Boinville’s positive feedback signals a promising outlook. Henderson also mentioned considerations about race dynamics and potential pacemakers, highlighting the strategic planning involved in the upcoming event.
As excitement builds for the event, Henderson will be present at Newbury for other races, while owner Michael Buckley will be supporting Constitution Hill at Newcastle.
