British Man Dies After Cosmetic Surgery in Turkey

Date:

A British man who underwent cosmetic surgery in Turkey has tragically passed away. Mentor Rama, 36, traveled to Istanbul for a hair transplant and dental work but collapsed shortly after the procedures. He fell ill in his hotel room and was rushed to a local hospital where he died on November 11.

Following his death, Rama’s body was taken for an autopsy at the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul. Turkish authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) stated that they are providing assistance to Rama’s family and are in contact with the local authorities.

Rama’s remains have been repatriated to the UK. Turkey has emerged as a popular destination for medical tourism, offering inclusive packages that include luxury services like airport transfers and hotel accommodations. Many Brits opt to travel to Turkey for medical procedures due to the lower costs compared to the UK.

Despite the attractiveness of medical tourism in Turkey, concerns have been raised by UK dentists about the potential risks and complications involved. The Foreign Office reported that there have been 28 deaths of British nationals in Turkey related to elective medical treatments between 2019 and March 2024, with more incidents occurring this year.

Antalya and Istanbul have become key hubs for medical tourism in Turkey, offering various services and packages to cater to international patients seeking cosmetic treatments.
