Residents of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s birth village are reaching out to the Hollywood icon to help revive their Christmas market, which had to be canceled due to financial constraints. The picturesque Austrian village of Thal, near Graz, where the Terminator star hails from, had to scrap its annual Christkindlmarkt as the community funds have been depleted. Locals are looking to Schwarzenegger, their renowned native, to step in and save the tradition.
Expressing their hopes, a resident mentioned on social media, “They should reach out to Arnie as he deeply cares about his hometown. For him, it’s a small amount.” Another resident added that it’s time for Schwarzenegger to show generosity towards his village. However, as of now, there has been no indication of support from California. Mayor Matthias Brunner explained that the decision to cancel the market was regrettable but necessary due to financial constraints.
Mayor Brunner elaborated on the costs involved in organizing the market, including stalls, equipment, and decorations, amounting to over 10,000 euros. With only 2,400 residents in the town, the financial burden has become unsustainable over the years, leading to the event’s cancellation without any available rescue funds.
