“Air Arabia Announces Long-Haul Budget Route to Sharjah”

Date:

Budget airlines are known for their no-frills approach to flying, offering cramped quarters and minimal services. Despite the lack of luxuries, many passengers are willing to endure shorter flights for the cost savings that can be enjoyed once they reach their destination.

In recent years, budget carriers have started offering longer routes, making even long-haul travel accessible on these no-frills airlines. Air Arabia is set to introduce a new route in spring 2026, flying from London Gatwick to Sharjah, with a flight time of seven hours and 50 minutes, making it one of the world’s longest budget airline routes.

While these flights will be operated on single-aisle planes, they will provide an affordable option for travelers looking to visit the Middle East, especially since Sharjah Airport is conveniently located just half an hour from Dubai. Current ticket prices from London to Sharjah start at £182, and it is anticipated that the new route will offer even more budget-friendly fares.

Onboard amenities on Air Arabia flights are similar to other budget airlines like easyJet and Ryanair, with cabins featuring a single aisle and seating configuration. Passengers can opt for upgrades for extra legroom and choose from different package options that include services like checked baggage and meal choices.

Entertainment options on the flight include the SkyTime app, allowing passengers to access a variety of content on their personal devices. However, seatback TVs are not available, so passengers may need to rely on the in-flight magazine for entertainment during the journey.

Notably, Air Arabia is a dry airline, meaning alcoholic beverages are not served onboard. This is in line with the regulations in Sharjah, where alcohol is not served in public establishments. Travelers landing in Sharjah have the option of exploring the city or venturing to nearby Dubai, with Sharjah offering cultural attractions like the Islamic Civilization Museum and scenic spots like the Al Majaz Waterfront.

Sharjah’s attractions also include sandy beaches along the Persian Gulf, as well as family-friendly sites such as the Sharjah Aquarium and Classic Cars Museum. The city’s designation as the “Cultural Capital of the Arab World” by UNESCO underscores its rich cultural heritage and diverse offerings for visitors.
