“Cruise Lines Crack Down on Prohibited Items & Gadgets”

Date:

Embarking on a cruise offers a unique travel experience, distinct from staying at a traditional hotel. Passengers must adhere to specific etiquette rules and safety regulations due to the close proximity on board and the shared facilities.

In recent years, various cruise lines have enforced bans on certain travel items, citing safety and behavioral concerns. To avoid any issues, passengers are advised to verify with their specific cruise line regarding the permissible items in their luggage.

Here are some of the recently prohibited items that may be confiscated if brought on board.

Accessing WiFi on a cruise can incur additional costs, especially for extended journeys or when using multiple devices. Some passengers have attempted to bypass these charges by bringing personal devices like Starlink Mini, a satellite-based internet provider, on board. However, cruise companies have disapproved of this method, citing concerns about potential interference with the ship’s systems and internal WiFi.

Cruise lines such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian have prohibited passenger-owned Starlink devices, despite utilizing the system for onboard WiFi services at a fee. They argue that external satellites could disrupt their operations and compromise the ship’s connectivity.

Some passengers have resorted to using routers in their cabins to connect multiple devices to a single WiFi connection, a practice that is now being restricted by several cruise lines due to reported cybersecurity risks. Social media platforms have seen passengers expressing frustration over having their routers confiscated while attempting to bring them aboard.

A peculiar ban was imposed by Carnival Cruises in the USA in response to a popular dance trend. The cruise line prohibited the use of paper clack fans, commonly used in a TikTok dance routine set to the song Boots on the Ground by 803Fresh, in nightclubs and indoor dance areas due to safety considerations. However, these fans are still permitted in open spaces on the ship.

The use of Bluetooth speakers on balcony areas has been banned by numerous cruise lines to prevent noise disturbances, inconvenience to fellow passengers, and potential obstruction of important announcements. Celebrity, Carnival, and MSC are among the cruise companies that have implemented speaker restrictions.

According to reports from Cruise Passenger, upside-down pineapples, commonly associated with swinging interests, are now prohibited on Carnival cruises. Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, confirmed the ban on these symbols, emphasizing their removal from cabin doors.

The cruise line’s guidelines further specify that any decorations on stateroom doors should not feature offensive messages, nudity, profanity, or sexual implications.
