In a tragic turn of events, a mother of two was compelled to give testimony during her own trial for murder after her former partner poured gasoline on her and set her on fire.
Judy Malinowski enjoyed a happy childhood before descending into a world of drug addiction. Unfortunately, she passed away at 33, succumbing to severe injuries sustained from the horrific act of being set ablaze. Initially a beauty pageant contestant, Judy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at a young age, which she bravely fought and overcame. However, the cancer recurred in her early twenties, leading to a hysterectomy and subsequent struggles with addiction to opioids.
Despite her challenges, Judy’s family remained steadfast in their support. Her life took a dark turn when she met Michael Slager, who, despite not using drugs himself, supplied her with substances, reigniting her addiction. During a confrontation near a gas station in 2015, Slager doused Judy with fuel and ignited her, resulting in extensive burns on her body.
Although Slager claimed the incident was accidental, investigations revealed it was a deliberate act. Judy sustained critical injuries, with 90% of her body engulfed in flames, causing her to lapse into a coma. Despite slim chances of survival, Judy emerged from the coma months later and recorded a harrowing video testimony for her own murder trial, recounting the horrifying experience and pleading for mercy.
Tragically, Judy succumbed to her injuries in June 2017 at the age of 33, leaving behind her two daughters. In a groundbreaking move, she became one of the first individuals in the U.S. to testify at her own murder trial through a courageous video. In 2018, Slager was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his heinous actions.
