EE has unveiled an upgraded version of its Scam Guard service to combat the increasing threat of scams targeting mobile users. Priced at £2 per month for all EE pay-monthly customers, this enhanced service offers advanced protection against cyber thieves attempting to obtain sensitive information.
Since its initial launch in 2024, EE’s Scam Guard has successfully blocked 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the new upgrade, EE anticipates doubling this prevention rate over the next year. The key feature of the upgraded Scam Guard is the AI Triple-Lock Protection system, powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine, which includes Safe Email, Safe SMS, and Safe Web components.
Safe Email provides proactive scam protection for email accounts, while Safe SMS uses AI to detect and prevent sophisticated scams in text messages. Safe Web safeguards customers while browsing online by blocking malicious websites. Additionally, customers can utilize the Scam Assistant tool to receive instant advice on the safety of various online content by uploading screenshots.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of staying ahead of evolving fraud tactics and providing customers with top-tier cybersecurity measures. The company’s commitment to enhancing security features, such as the Scam Guard service, underscores its dedication to protecting customers from cyber threats.
By investing in industry alliances, network-level controls, and a team of security experts, EE aims to offer customers a comprehensive defense against fraudulent activities. The upgraded Scam Guard service is a testament to EE’s ongoing efforts to provide customers with robust cybersecurity protection in an increasingly digitized world.
