Joe Cullen recently expressed strong disapproval of Mensur Suljovic on social media, accusing the experienced darts player of dishonesty. The English player faced a disappointing loss to Suljovic in a tense second-round match at the World Darts Championship.
Suljovic made an impressive comeback after losing a set to defeat Cullen 3-1 at Alexandra Palace. During the game, Cullen displayed impatience by repeatedly checking his watch and murmuring “hurry up” to himself while Suljovic, known for his slower pace, took his time preparing to throw.
As the match progressed, Cullen grew increasingly agitated by Suljovic’s deliberate pace and prolonged celebrations. Tensions escalated during their post-match handshake, with Cullen confronting Suljovic, who responded with laughter.
Upon exiting the stage, Cullen turned back to glare at Suljovic as the Austrian celebrated with the audience. Cullen did not hold back his frustration, taking to social media to condemn Suljovic’s behavior as cheating and expressing disappointment in the game.
In response to Cullen’s public outburst, Suljovic seemed puzzled when questioned about Cullen’s reaction and whether he had apologized for his slow play. Suljovic stated that he had never personally apologized to Cullen and defended his playing style, emphasizing that each player has their own approach on the stage.
Looking ahead, Suljovic may face defending world champion Luke Littler in the next round. Littler is set to compete against David Davies, an NHS area manager, in his upcoming match.
