BT Broadband customers in the UK are in for a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile is set to make a comeback to the market. BT had paused new customer sign-ups in 2023, favoring its EE network brand at the time. However, the company has now announced a shift in focus, allowing existing broadband customers access to BT-branded SIM deals once again.
While specific details are yet to be disclosed, this move indicates BT’s commitment to reviving its well-established brand presence, which had taken a back seat to EE in recent years. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed the position in 2024, is keen on elevating BT’s visibility among UK households to prevent the brand from fading into obscurity.
Kirkby emphasized the importance of investing in their brands, products, and services, following substantial network investments in recent years, during an event at Wembley. With this relaunch, BT will re-enter the market, competing directly with major providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
Although pricing details are pending, BT plans to offer bundled packages that combine broadband, landline, and mobile SIM services under a single monthly bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this move as a strategic effort to stay relevant in a fiercely competitive telecoms sector.
Pescatore highlighted the significance of execution in proving the network’s capability to meet real-world demands at scale for BT’s success. Additionally, BT announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, hosted across Britain and Ireland.
Pescatore emphasized that while branding is crucial, reconnecting with users, households, and businesses is pivotal for BT’s long-term strategy. The UEFA Euro 2028 partnership serves as a substantial validation of BT’s scale, relevance, and service delivery. Pescatore noted that sports have a unique ability to unite people, creating shared experiences and emotional connections that transcend other platforms.
