Shoe repair chain Timpson introduces a new mobile phone trade-in service in partnership with gadget resell company musicMagpie and AO. Customers can bring their unwanted smartphones to Timpson stores and receive instant cash. Research reveals that 73% of UK adults have unused smartphones with an average trade-in value of £250, totaling an estimated £10 billion. Timpson aims to cater to individuals who prefer face-to-face transactions, although other high street options are available. The survey highlights that 68% of people prefer in-person trade-ins, with immediate payment being crucial for one in four. The trade-in service, initially trialed four months ago, is now available at over 1,300 Timpson stores nationwide. John Roberts, CEO of AO World, emphasizes the convenience of the service, making it easy for customers to earn cash quickly for their old smartphones. The collaboration between musicMagpie and Timpson aims to provide customers with instant value for their old tech while promoting affordability and sustainability. Steve Oliver, co-founder of musicMagpie, sees the partnership with Timpson as a significant milestone in expanding customer reach and convenience. Sid Hubbard, Timpson’s group director, highlights the company’s commitment to enhancing the high street experience for customers through the new service. The addition of smartphone trade-ins aligns with Timpson’s longstanding tradition of repairing and repurposing goods.
