Apple has commenced its annual WWDC Developers Conference at its futuristic headquarters in Cupertino, unveiling the upcoming iOS 27 as the successor to the current iOS 26. The new operating system is set to launch in the Autumn, bringing enhancements like customizable Liquid Glass features, improved file search capabilities, and an advanced Siri capable of handling tasks such as composing emails, scheduling events, and assisting in booking event tickets.
Apple assures users of older iPhones of increased responsiveness through a feature called CPU Scheduler. Additionally, across all devices, performance improvements are expected with iPhone and iPad apps launching up to 30% faster, photos loading up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers being up to 80% faster.
A significant highlight of iOS 27 is the introduction of a new set of parental controls to manage children’s device usage more effectively. Features like “Ask to Browse,” “Time Allowances,” and Screen Time aim to provide a simpler setup experience and reduce parental concerns when granting device access to children.
Apple’s Vice President of Health and Fitness, Sumbul Desai, M.D., emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering users and enhancing safety through technology. The upcoming updates aim to help families establish age-appropriate protections and encourage healthy digital habits.
While Apple is yet to reveal the full list of changes, it has confirmed that all iPhones currently running iOS 26 will be eligible for the iOS 27 update. The compatible devices for iOS 27 include a range of iPhone models from iPhone 11 to iPhone 17, along with iPhone Air and iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation).
