Taylor Swift’s Music Removed from Trump Campaign Videos

Date:

Some of Taylor Swift’s music has been taken down from social media videos shared by the campaign of U.S. President Donald Trump and the White House, both of which recently featured two of the singer’s tracks. The White House and a representative for Swift did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

While Swift has not directly addressed Trump in recent times, she did endorse his Democratic opponent, Vice-President Kamala Harris, in the 2024 election. During the 2020 campaign, Swift made it clear on social media that she did not support Trump as president.

Trump, in turn, has criticized Swift multiple times. After she endorsed Harris, he expressed his disdain for her on social media, stating, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” He also made remarks about her physical appearance. Joining a list of artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, many have requested that the Trump administration refrain from using their music.

The Trump campaign utilized two of Swift’s songs on their TikTok page over the past week. One video, referencing Swift’s popular songs, included a caption titled “Red (Donald Trump’s Version).” In a separate video posted in June, featuring Swift’s new track “I Knew It, I Knew You” from the fictional “Toy Story 5,” Trump was portrayed as someone who deeply cares for the country and its people.

This is not the first time that the Trump administration has used Swift’s music in their content. Last year, a video of the Artemis II crew meeting with Trump used Swift’s song “High Infidelity.” Another TikTok video shared in November featured “The Fate of Ophelia” from Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl,” alongside visuals of American symbols and various images of Trump, including a fictional mugshot from 2023.

The posting of these videos prompted a significant response on social media, with a White House spokesperson explaining that they anticipated the videos would gain attention from news organizations. Trump’s communication team regularly incorporates popular songs into their social media content, covering topics such as immigration policies, military actions, and international incidents.
