Millions of viewers witnessed a total solar eclipse on Wednesday across various regions, including the Arctic, Greenland, Spain, and Portugal. Those outside the path of totality experienced a partial eclipse. Here are some highlights from Wednesday’s solar event.
In Spain’s Catalonia region, observers watched the eclipse from the sea port of Tarragona. In Berlin, the moon started to obscure the sun during the eclipse. In western Germany’s Halde Hoheward park, a skywatcher used eclipse glasses to view the event. A video feed of the eclipse was displayed on a stadium screen in Salzburg, Austria, ahead of the UEFA Super Cup soccer match between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa.
In Warsaw, a woman viewed the eclipse through a welder’s mask at the Copernicus Science Centre. In A Coruña, Spain, the moon partially covered the sun during the eclipse. At Puerto de Sagunto beach near Valencia, a beachgoer wore special eclipse glasses during the early stages of the event. In Reykjavík, Iceland, people gathered to witness the eclipse under cloudy skies. An aircraft flew past during the eclipse in Bernex near Geneva, Switzerland. The total solar eclipse was captured from Arija and the Riet Vell Nature Reserve near Amposta, both in Spain.
