“CBC Secures Five-Year Deal for Expanded Curling Coverage”

Date:

CBC has solidified its position in Canadian curling through a newly inked five-year broadcast deal that will expand coverage of the Grand Slam of Curling playoffs and all Rock League matches on its platforms. The agreement with The Curling Group, revealed on Thursday, will result in over 300 hours of combined television programming on CBC and Sportsnet for the 2026-27 season.

A significant development for CBC is its involvement with Rock League. The professional league, which debuted in April, is set to return to CBC in January 2027. Every match will be accessible on CBC television and CBC Gem, while selected games will also be broadcast on Radio-Canada’s ICI TOU.TV and Sportsnet on Thursdays and Fridays. The league comprises six mixed-gender teams with players from various countries, and its second season will feature competitions on specific weekends in January and April, with matches scheduled from Thursday to Sunday.

In addition, CBC will have an enhanced role in the Grand Slam of Curling. Sportsnet remains the primary broadcaster for all five Grand Slam events, starting in October. The coverage will include three draws per day from Tuesday to Friday. On Saturdays, CBC and CBC Gem will join Sportsnet+ for playoff coverage, while Sportsnet will air the championship finals on Sundays, with CBC also featuring select finals throughout the season. The morning round-robin draws and tiebreakers from Tuesday to Saturday will still be available for streaming on Rock Channel.

This new agreement builds on CBC’s extensive curling coverage legacy and expands its presence during major Canadian curling events. Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of sports and Olympics, expressed enthusiasm about sharing another season of Rock League with audiences nationwide. The agreements with The Curling Group aim to attract a broader national audience for both the Grand Slam and Rock League, marking a significant milestone for the sport, according to Nic Sulsky, CEO and co-founder of The Curling Group.

Over the next five years, Canadian viewers can look forward to more ways to follow the action, from the excitement of Grand Slam playoff weekends to the anticipated second season of Rock League on CBC.
