The Vancouver Rise have strengthened their squad with new signings. The Northern Super League team recently acquired two defenders in preparation for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. Chantelle Swaby, formerly with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who played for AFC Toronto in the NSL, have joined the Rise.
According to head coach Anja Heiner-Moller, both players bring valuable skills to the team as they strive to position themselves for the playoffs. Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League and the Scottish Women’s Premier League. She is known for her composure in high-pressure situations and her leadership on the field.
Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement at returning to her hometown to play for the Rise. The Burnaby native is looking forward to showcasing her talent in front of a local crowd and being close to her family once again.
These signings come after the retirement of Mariah Lee, a veteran forward who decided to pursue a career in law, and the loan of goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan to the Halifax Tides. Vancouver is currently aiming to secure a playoff spot, trailing Halifax by five points in the standings.
Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s determination to reach the playoffs and prove themselves in the league. With the season entering a critical phase, the Rise are focused on making a strong push towards the postseason.
