A police officer in Toronto is in the hospital after being shot while investigating a robbery early Thursday. A 27-year-old man from Peterborough is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and firearm offenses. Police responded to a stolen e-bike report around 3:21 a.m. near Queen Street E. and Sherbourne Street. The suspect was apprehended shortly after and allegedly shot one of the officers during the arrest. The injured officer received prompt medical aid and remains hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accused, who was out on bail for weapons-related offenses, was apprehended without any additional gunfire from the police. The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the events.
