Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson advanced to the quarterfinals of the Montreal Elite beach volleyball pro tour event on Friday after defeating Brazil’s Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes with a score of 21-13, 21-18. The duo, who won Olympic silver in Tokyo, now leads Pool A with a perfect 3-0 record.
Wilkerson emphasized the importance of sticking to their game plan and effective communication on the court. She highlighted their trust in defense and side out plays, emphasizing the need to persevere and fight through challenges.
On the women’s side, Lea Monkhouse and Marie-Alex Belanger faced tough competition, losing both matches to drop to a 0-3 record in the tournament.
In men’s action, Sam Schachter and Jonny Pickett suffered a close 21-13, 23-21 defeat against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Lima. Despite the loss, the Canadian pair secured a spot in the playoffs with a 1-2 record.
Meanwhile, Steve Abrams and Cameron Chadwick struggled, losing a tight match against Americans Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh with a score of 21-23, 21-18, 15-12, leaving them at 0-3 in the tournament.
The competition will continue at Parc Jean-Drapeau through Sunday, with more exciting matches on the horizon.
