Approximately 150 corgis came together for a special event in Vilnius, Lithuania, showcasing the beloved breed known for their short legs and big personalities. The Corgi Race Vilnius featured various competitions including a costume parade, a “smartest nose” challenge, and a contest to find the loudest bark.
Participants from nine countries, including the United States, Britain, Germany, and Ukraine, gathered at Vingis Park for the event. The competition saw 94 dogs running in qualifiers, semifinals, and the final race, which covered a distance of 25 meters. GG, an American corgi named Gustave the Girl Dog, emerged as the winner, with Mr. Corgington from the U.S. finishing in a close second and Lithuania’s Moka taking third place.
In addition to the racing segment, the event highlighted the dogs’ diverse talents and showcased their creativity through various challenges. A costume parade featured corgis dressed in unique outfits, with one standout entrant named Amigo winning both the jury and public vote for the best costume. The “smartest nose” contest, where dogs searched for hidden treats, ended in a tie between Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty.
The competition also included a loudest bark contest, with Mr. Corgington claiming victory in this category. Despite his age, 12-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi Duke from England participated in the event, impressing spectators with his barking skills. The event drew both new participants and seasoned veterans, with some corgis attending every edition of the race.
Overall, the Corgi Race Vilnius celebrated the unique charm and abilities of these endearing herding dogs, bringing together corgi enthusiasts from around the world for a day of fun and friendly competition.
