Sophia Jensen Claims Gold at ICF Canoe World Championships

Canada’s Sophia Jensen secured her inaugural world championship title on Saturday at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships held in Poznań, Poland. The 24-year-old athlete hailing from Chelsea, Que., clinched the gold medal in the women’s C1 500-meter final, clocking a time of 2 minutes and 0.78 seconds. Agnes Anna Kiss from Hungary claimed the silver medal with a time of 2:02.80, while the bronze went to Alena Nazdrova from Belarus who finished in 2:04.80.

Adding to Canada’s success, Brianna Hennessy from Ottawa also stood on the podium by winning the bronze in the KL1 women’s 200m final, completing the race in 54.20 seconds. Katherinne Wollermann, the Paralympic champion from Chile, secured the gold medal with a time of 52.23, surpassing China’s Maosan Xie who took silver with a time of 53.92 seconds.
