Three individuals, including a high-level cocaine trafficker, a nightclub owner moonlighting as a drug courier, and a recently divorced father, have pleaded guilty for their involvement in a drug bust by Winnipeg police. Mohamed Ali, Abdullah Khan, and Ahmed Dini were arrested as part of Project Roasted, an extensive investigation into a drug trafficking network. The operation resulted in the arrest of one individual at home and the apprehension of the other two individuals as they were leaving Stella’s on Pembina Highway with approximately two kilograms of cocaine in their possession.
Following concerns that the drug investigation had been compromised, police obtained a warrant to search one of the suspects’ seized cellphones. This search aimed to establish a connection between Ali, his associates, and former Winnipeg police officer Elston Bostock, who was sentenced to seven years in prison for providing confidential police information to external parties.
The investigation revealed incriminating photos and text messages linking the accused individuals to Bostock. Ali, described as a high-level cocaine trafficker, admitted to possessing cocaine for trafficking purposes in Winnipeg and Niverville between October 2023 and February 2024. Khan, the nightclub owner, confessed to transporting drugs and obstructing justice in a separate case. Dini, a father of eight, was found with crack cocaine in his apartment and admitted to his involvement due to personal struggles.
Despite being puzzled by their involvement, the court handed down sentences to the three men, with Dini receiving a two-year conditional sentence followed by two years of supervised probation. Charges against two other co-accused were dropped without specific reasons provided by federal prosecutors.
