Forge FC Secures Dramatic 1-1 Draw in Canadian Championship Semifinal

Date:

Forge FC managed to secure a 1-1 draw against FC Supra du Quebec in the Canadian Championship semifinal’s first leg with Daniel Krutzen’s late equalizer in the 95th minute at Stade Boreale on Tuesday.

Supra’s Ibrahim Conde scored first, highlighting their struggle to close out games, as acknowledged by head coach Nick Razzaghi. Despite the disappointment, Razzaghi praised his team’s character and defensive solidity, noting room for improvement.

Both teams made significant lineup changes compared to their recent meeting in the Canadian Premier League. Forge, a consistent CPL top performer, adjusted after being outplayed initially and delivered a more characteristic performance.

Forge head coach Bobby Smyrniotis cautioned against complacency, emphasizing the competition’s challenges and the team’s need to remain focused. The result set the stage for the return leg at Hamilton Stadium, where Forge has a strong home record.

Supra took the lead in the 36th minute through Conde’s goal after a solid defensive display and quick counterattack. Forge responded strongly but struggled to convert chances, trailing at halftime.

In the second half, Forge increased the pressure, testing Supra’s defense and creating scoring opportunities. Krutzen’s late equalizer came in dramatic fashion, salvaging a draw for Forge in the dying moments.

Looking ahead, the teams will face each other again in the second leg of the semifinal on September 15 in Hamilton.
