Good news for Echo smart speaker owners in the UK as Amazon announces the arrival of the Alexa+ platform. Previously exclusive to the US, this upgraded version of the Alexa voice assistant is now available for UK users at no additional cost.
With Alexa+, interactions with the voice assistant become more natural and conversational, tailored to individual preferences and habits. The platform adapts its tone based on the context, enhancing the user experience.
Personalization is a key feature of Alexa+, allowing users to receive recommendations and updates only on topics of interest, whether it’s movies, recipes, or sports news. Alexa+ can also assist in creating shopping lists, tracking prices, and providing product comparisons through online reviews.
In addition to entertainment and shopping capabilities, Alexa+ offers seamless control over smart home devices. Users can effortlessly manage tasks like adjusting lighting or setting custom routines through voice commands, eliminating the need to access the Alexa app.
Furthermore, Alexa+ simplifies the management of multi-room speaker setups, enabling users to direct music playback to specific areas within the home with ease. Voice commands like “play the music upstairs” or “play the music everywhere, but don’t wake the baby” ensure a smooth audio experience.
While Alexa+ has been available in the US, the UK launch incorporates localized communication nuances and cultural references to enhance user engagement. Meryem Tom, Director of Alexa UK, emphasized the importance of adapting the platform to British communication styles.
Concerns about data privacy are addressed by Amazon, highlighting the privacy features integrated into Alexa+. Users have access to the Alexa Privacy dashboard for managing interactions, voice recordings, and privacy settings conveniently via the Alexa app and online platform.
To experience Alexa+, Early Access is now available in the UK, initially offered for free. Following the Early Access period, a monthly subscription fee of £19.99 will apply, except for Prime members who will retain complimentary access.
Amazon plans to gradually invite hundreds of thousands of customers to join Alexa+ Early Access in the UK over the upcoming weeks, expanding the platform’s reach to a broader audience.
