Apple’s AirTag is a must-have for those who frequently misplace their belongings. Launched in 2021, these compact trackers have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. AirTags are versatile, easily attachable to keys, bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
The latest-generation AirTag introduces an enhanced Ultra Wideband chip, offering an extended range. Apple claims this update improves Precision Finding by up to 50%, facilitating the location of lost items from greater distances. Additionally, Precision Finding is now compatible with selected Apple Watch models, enabling users to track down misplaced items directly from their wrist.
With an upgraded internal speaker, the new AirTag produces sounds that are 50% louder than its predecessor, aiding in locating it in hard-to-reach places. AirTags utilize Apple’s Find My network, which leverages nearby Apple devices to transmit location updates to the owner anonymously. This system prioritizes privacy, as AirTags do not retain location history on the device and all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end for owner-exclusive access.
The latest AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature enabling users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to aid in retrieving lost belongings. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this functionality.
The new AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original AirTag, which started at £35 upon launch.
