Kevin Murison, a bagpiper in Ottawa, often receives mixed reactions while playing his instrument on a busy sidewalk. Despite some negative responses, he mainly encounters positive feedback from passersby who appreciate his music. Murison, 35, frequently performs in full Highland attire near the Ottawa Locks, next to the Château Laurier.
Recently, Murison shared an incident that stood out from the usual interactions. On a Saturday afternoon, while playing in his usual spot, a man approached him under the guise of wanting a photo. However, the situation took a frightening turn when the man revealed a knife, resulting in Murison sustaining injuries to his hand.
Following the attack, a bystander contacted emergency services, leading to the apprehension of a 25-year-old suspect who now faces multiple charges, including assault with a weapon. Ottawa police highlighted that the assault was unprovoked.
Despite the ordeal, Murison remains dedicated to his passion for playing the bagpipes, which he has cherished for over 15 years. His band, Ottawa Caledonian Pipes and Drums, has shown support by providing him with a new bag. Murison expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the bagpiping community.
While he continues to recover from his injuries, Murison is determined to return to performing once he has healed. Despite the harrowing experience, he remains resilient and committed to sharing his music with the public.
