Given the multitude of online accounts people handle, it’s common to opt for easily memorable passwords. Unfortunately, using overly simplistic or weak passwords can expose accounts to cyber threats.
Despite repeated alerts, some individuals still choose passwords that can be cracked within seconds. If you suspect your security measures are inadequate, immediate changes are necessary.
To highlight what not to do, NordPass has unveiled a list of commonly used passwords in the UK.
Surprisingly, individuals are employing passwords like “admin,” “123456,” and even “password.”
The top 10 worst passwords are as follows:
1. admin
2. 123456
3. password
4. 12345678
5. 123456789
6. Password1
7. Password
8. 12345
9. Lennon11
10. 1234567890
It may be assumed that older people are primarily making these password mistakes, but according to NordPass, poor password choices are prevalent across all age groups.
Researchers have identified a consistent vulnerability pattern. The passwords “12345” and “123456” remain popular choices across all age demographics.
An encouraging trend this year is the increase in individuals diversifying their passwords by incorporating symbols and capital letters. This enhances security and makes it more challenging for passwords to be deciphered.
Nonetheless, NordPass warns that common passwords now include “P@ssw0rd,” “Admin@123,” or “Abcd@1234,” which are still easily crackable and not sufficiently complex.
