A man tragically lost his life when a one-ton cow fell through the roof of his home in Brazil. Joao Maria de Souza, aged 45, was sleeping beside his wife when the cow crashed through, landing on their bed. Despite being rushed to the hospital with a broken leg, Joao passed away the following day due to internal bleeding from the incident.
The cow had wandered from a nearby farm onto the steep hill where the couple’s home was situated. This unusual accident prompted an investigation by the Civil Police of Vale do Rio Doce. The victim’s mother expressed disbelief at the circumstances, lamenting that her son had survived meningitis as a child only to meet such a tragic end.
Although there were no other fatalities from similar incidents involving wandering cows in the area, this was the third such event in three years. Joao’s brother-in-law criticized the delay in medical attention as a contributing factor to his death, emphasizing the unexpected nature of being crushed by a cow in one’s own bed.
Reports indicated that a previous incident in the same area had occurred without injuries, while a subsequent event saw a baby and a young child narrowly escaping harm. The region, known for cattle farming and dairy production, has a hilly terrain where such occurrences are rare but not unheard of.
Despite the bizarre circumstances, the cow emerged unscathed from the incident, highlighting the unexpected and tragic nature of Joao’s demise.
