Promise David has secured a move to the Premier League as Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed the signing of the Canadian forward on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes an option to purchase for a reported sum of $29.7 million US, subject to specific undisclosed conditions being fulfilled.
Union Saint-Gilloise revealed that David will be competing in the Premier League “starting from the upcoming season” for a record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old Canadian striker arrives at Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 games and contributed to the club’s first league triumph in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David scored a goal during limited playing time off the bench while recovering from a hip injury. He has notched four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially debuted for Nigeria’s under-23 team in October 2022. However, after discussions with Canada’s coach Jesse Marsch, FIFA approved his request to switch his international allegiance in February 2025.
Brighton marks the latest chapter in David’s diverse career, having previously played professionally in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed his excitement about David’s arrival, citing his prolific goal-scoring record, physical attributes, and valuable experience at the international and European levels.
At 25 years old, David is entering his peak years as a player, and Brighton anticipates his continued growth and impact within their squad as they aim to build on their eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
