“British Airways Announces Price Hike for Reward Flights”

Date:

British Airways has made a significant announcement affecting its loyal customers just before the Christmas season and ahead of busy travel days. The airline confirmed that starting from Monday, December 15, 2025, there will be an increase in the price of Reward Flights, impacting both the Avios points and cash components of the fare. Flights booked using Avios are known as Reward Flights.

The price hike will be implemented across all British Airways flights and its partner airlines. The airline attributed the price adjustments to the rising Air Passenger Duty, third-party charges, and general inflation.

British Airways shared examples of the price increases on its official website. For instance, an off-peak return journey from London to New York currently requires a specific number of Avios points, but this will increase by up to 14,000 Avios points starting from December 15.

Additionally, the airline highlighted another scenario where an off-peak each-way flight from London to Geneva will see a price adjustment from the current rate to a higher value when the changes take effect.

In an email sent to customers on December 3, British Airways explained the reasons behind the price changes, stating that factors like Air Passenger Duty, increased third-party charges, market dynamics, and inflation compelled them to revise their pricing. The airline emphasized that members were given ample notice to plan accordingly.

For individuals with existing bookings who wish to modify their flights, British Airways clarified that if changes are made before December 15, the current rates will apply. However, making changes after this date within the same seasonality and destination will not incur additional Avios charges.

For more details regarding the Flight Rewards increase, interested parties can refer to the British Airways website for comprehensive information.
