Paige Bueckers led a second-half surge, scoring all 22 of her points as the Dallas Wings secured a 94-88 victory over the struggling Toronto Tempo on Wednesday. The Tempo suffered their 10th straight defeat in the face of Bueckers’ remarkable performance.
In a stellar third quarter, Bueckers went a perfect 4 of 4 from both field goals and free throws, amassing 13 crucial points after a scoreless first half. This turnaround helped the Wings snap a three-game losing streak, their longest of the season.
Arike Ogunbowale contributed 21 points, setting season highs in free throws with a remarkable 13 of 14, while Alanna Smith posted 13 points and 11 rebounds. Awak Kuier also chipped in with 14 points. Notably, Dallas played without key players such as All-Star Jessica Shepard and rookie top draft pick Azzi Fudd, who were sidelined due to injuries.
Marina Mabrey’s late-game heroics saw her score 14 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter, bringing the Tempo within striking distance after trailing by 18 in the third quarter. However, Bueckers’ strong play, including eight assists and three steals, secured the win for the Wings.
Despite a late push from the Tempo, Bueckers’ offensive prowess remained consistent, shooting 7 of 11 from the field and making all seven of her free throws in the second half. Laura Juskaite contributed 18 points, and Kia Nurse added 16 for Toronto, who were without starters Brittney Sykes and Julie Allemand for the game.
