A man who believed he was defending humanity from extraterrestrial beings carried out a horrific attack on a father-to-be, resulting in a gruesome beheading and cannibalism. The incident occurred on a bus traveling to Winnipeg, where Tim McLean, a Canadian carnival worker, was on his way to meet his pregnant girlfriend.
Vincent Weiguang Li, described as agitated, joined the bus and sat quietly at first. However, he later moved to sit beside Tim, who was asleep against the window. Li then violently attacked Tim, mutilating his body and carrying out disturbing acts. Despite efforts by a young veteran and the bus driver to intervene, Li continued his assault.
Subsequently, Li was found by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on the bus, where he attempted to escape but was eventually apprehended. Li claimed to have acted under the influence of a “voice of God,” instructing him to prevent an alien invasion. Following the incident, Li was deemed not criminally responsible due to mental illness and was committed for treatment.
Despite the tragic outcome, Tim’s family continues to struggle with the aftermath of the incident. Li, now living under a new identity, was granted an absolute discharge in 2017. Tim’s mother expressed her pain over the loss, while his son, born after the tragedy, is seen as a blessing by the family.
This unsettling event, which shocked the nation, serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of mental health issues and the importance of proper treatment and support for individuals in distress.
