“Canada’s Marco Arop Finishes Fourth at Diamond League in Lausanne”

Date:

At the Diamond League track and field event in Lausanne, Switzerland, Canada’s Marco Arop secured the fourth position. Arop sprinted ahead initially, leading the pack into the final lap, but couldn’t sustain the speed, finishing fourth with a time of 1:43.18.

The race was won by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in 1:42.19, with Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati coming in second at 1:42.31, achieving a season-best time. American Brandon Miller clinched the third spot with a time of 1:42.55.

Last year, Arop and shot putter Sarah Mitton were the sole Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich, where they both secured third place. Arop, ranking second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings behind Wanyonyi, was in a favorable position to qualify for the Final despite not yet officially securing his spot.

The upcoming 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled for September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.

In the men’s 200m event, reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo from Botswana triumphed with a time of 19.87 seconds. South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile placed second with a time of 19.98, followed by Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba in third at 20.14.

On the women’s side, American Kayla White won the 200m race in 22.18 seconds. The battle for the second and third positions ended in a photo finish, with Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly beating Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, both clocking in at 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, sustained an injury during the race and had to be escorted off the track in a wheelchair.
