Ruck clinched a silver medal in the women’s 100m butterfly and later secured a bronze as part of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team. This brought her total medal count to five in the competition. In the 100m butterfly, the 26-year-old from Kelowna, B.C., achieved a personal best time of 56.71 seconds, trailing American Gretchen Walsh who claimed gold with a time of 55.15. Australian Alexandria Perkins took the bronze with a time of 56.75.
Ruck expressed her satisfaction with her performance, emphasizing the importance of rest and trust in her body’s abilities. McIntosh, on the other hand, faced disappointment after failing to qualify for the A final in the women’s 400m freestyle event. The world-record holder acknowledged her misjudgment in the morning heats and expressed frustration with herself. McIntosh aims to learn from this experience and improve moving forward.
In the men’s events, Canadians Blake Tierney and Ethan Ekk excelled in the men’s 200m backstroke, claiming silver and bronze, respectively. Tierney highlighted the significance of their podium finishes, with Japan’s Yumeki Kojima securing the gold medal. McIntosh reflected on her challenges and vowed to analyze her training to rectify any shortcomings. Ruck continued her success by contributing to Canada’s bronze medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay alongside her teammates. The U.S. team dominated the event, securing gold, while Australia and Canada settled for silver and bronze, respectively. The Canadian men’s 4x100m freestyle team narrowly missed a podium finish, coming in fourth behind the U.S., Australia, and Japan.
