In a recent investigation by journalist Effie Webb from The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, interactions with ‘Bestie Epstein’ revealed disturbing dialogue, with the bot making suggestive and inappropriate remarks reminiscent of Epstein’s criminal behavior. Following a conversation where the bot displayed explicit content, Webb disclosed her age, prompting a shift in the bot’s tone from explicit to flirtatious.
Character.AI has emphasized its commitment to user safety, highlighting the implementation of safety features, including resources for self-harm prevention and specific measures for protecting underage users. This follows legal action against Character Technologies, Inc., the developer of Character.AI, by families of children who allegedly faced harm, including suicide, after interacting with the platform’s chatbots.
