Starting a festive day out with early morning cold temperatures and drizzle may not be ideal, especially when attending an outdoor event in the UK. However, despite the inclement weather, the experience at a theme park during late November can still ignite the Christmas spirit.
Upon arrival at Chessington’s Winter Trail, initial feelings of Scrooge-like reluctance due to traffic and cold dissipated quickly as the park’s festive decorations, including snow-covered trees and large Christmas ornaments, created a magical atmosphere.
The joyful ambiance was further enhanced by cheerful elves greeting visitors and entertaining with a lively pantomime despite the rain. The winter trail kicked off with an activity where guests could write letters to Santa Claus while enjoying cookies baked by Mrs. Claus.
Waiting in line to meet Santa was made enjoyable with a silent disco using headphones playing festive music and Christmas stories, ensuring a pleasant experience even with children.
Meeting Santa at Chessington proved to be a highlight, with a well-organized queue leading to a cozy log cabin where Santa interacted warmly with the children. The visit included a tour of Santa’s toy workshop led by friendly elves, culminating in a special toy gift for each child.
Aside from the Santa experience, the park offered operational rides, including child-friendly attractions like the vintage carousel and the Gruffalo River Ride. Access to the SEA LIFE center and zoo was also included with the tickets, providing additional entertainment options.
For meals, the Smokehouse barbecue restaurant served standard fare with Christmas specials, although there was a wait for the food. The adult meals were satisfying, offering festive loaded chips and tender brisket, while the children’s meal options were less impressive.
Overall, Chessington’s Christmas event was a delightful family outing, catering to various age groups without overwhelming queues for activities. The well-organized event, complete with Santa’s helpful elves, made for a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Chessington’s Winter Trail runs until December 31, with tickets starting from £34 per person for the Winter Trail and Christmas Village. More information and ticket bookings are available on the official website.
