“Christmas Chocolate Tin Prices Soar, Shoppers Seek Affordable Alternatives”

Date:

This season, many of us like to have a tin of chocolates on hand to share with loved ones or enjoy ourselves. However, if you’re thinking of indulging in this holiday tradition, it might be wise to budget for it.

In the past, a tin of festive chocolates typically wouldn’t cost more than £5. Yet, during my recent supermarket visit, I was taken aback by the prices of Cadbury Roses and Heroes tins. While browsing at my local Sainsbury’s, I considered picking up a tin of chocolates to snack on while watching Christmas movies. To my dismay, I found that both 700g tins of Cadbury Roses and Heroes were priced at £16.50.

Fortunately, there is a slight discount available for Nectar cardholders, bringing the cost down to £10. Despite this, the price still seems high to me.

For Sainsbury’s shoppers seeking more affordable options, there are alternatives. The Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) is priced at £9.59 or £6.50 with a Nectar card. Additionally, a 750g tin of Quality Street is available for £13 or £8.50 with a Nectar card.

Other options include tubs of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street ranging from 500-550g, priced at just £6 each.

For those looking for better deals, Tesco is offering the same 500-550g tubs of Celebrations and Quality Street for only £3.95 with a Clubcard, or £4.50 without. Moreover, the Heroes tub at Sainsbury’s, priced at £16.50 or £10 with a Nectar card, is available for just £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco, or £15 without.

Recent findings revealed the supermarkets offering the most budget-friendly prices for Christmas chocolate tubs. Asda currently sells standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations for less than £5, while Morrisons offers them for £7 (or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card).

As mentioned earlier, Tesco sells Celebrations and Quality Street tubs for just £3.95 with a Clubcard, and Roses and Heroes for £7 (or £5.25 with a Clubcard). Aldi and Lidl also have tubs priced below £5.

Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not stock traditional tubs on their websites, but they do offer smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates ranging from approximately £4 to £10.
